In the next month, a new wave of recent college graduates will become the next young full-time job seekers to enter the market. For some, they will have just started working on their job search plans, while others may be a few months into their job search.
Here are a few job hunting myths you should be aware of:
You haven’t heard back, so the job is filled
If you have not heard back from an employer, never assume that the position is filled. Do not let this dishearten you during your search. If on your end you have yet to follow-up with the company, send an e-mail or personalized letter within a few weeks of sending in your resume.
The most qualified person will land the job
While your skills and experience are important in getting you an initial interview, some employers initially hire someone because of their soft skills, such as your personality and your ability to work with the current employees. If you are interested in a position and meet only some of the requirements, do not quickly dismiss it. Your soft skills could be the key to putting you above the most qualified to landing the position.
Always accept the first job offer
While getting your first job offer is exciting, always remember to do your pros and cons to determine if you truly should accept the offer. Taking a job that you may hate can take a toll on your well-being and your career. Remember it is something you will have to work out for yourself.
While it is always nice to receive advice from people, some advice may not fit to your needs or may not be updated information. Knowing myths early into your job search will make your search easy.
