Before your next interview, I advise you to think twice about how much you actually know about the organizatio, and who are you going to see. I’m sure you know the basics, such as how to “wow” them with your professional suit, diverse portfolio, and personable attitude. But you can do a little bit more, and it may lead to that offer you’ve been waiting for.
Interview after interview, I am finding myself a little bored, and feeling like I’m repeating myself over and over again. After all, there are only so many ways I can sell myself and so many ways that I can tell recruiters about my challenges and experience. Then, I was wondering, do they feel the same way? Well, I don’t want to bore them, or be just another interviewee, I want wow them.
So, how do we do it? Our fellow intern, Tessa St. Marie, recently wrote a blog that inspired me “Write Now! 4 Ways to Write Your Way into the Perfect Job.“ And that’s exactly what you are going to do, but with a twist. You’re going to write a piece or create an idea for the organization you are interviewing for and bring it with you for your interview.
By doing so, you will give the organization the chance to see some of your work, as well as how interested you are in the job. It’ll be innovative, creative, and show that you went that extra mile for them. And without them even asking you, you are already thinking about what you can bring to the organization, and what they will gain from you.
Voila! That is how you will set yourself apart from other candidates and you will stand out. Your actions will speak louder than your resume and cover letter. And if you are short on time, at least brainstorm some ideas, it will only help you.
What are some ways you stand out in interviews?
