Closing the Job Application Black Hole

by Nola Green on June 13, 2011

StartWire, a start-up that is focused on radically improving the job search, has done just that recently. They just announced a major upgrade to their set-up that is going to relieve so much of the job search stress. Ready?

They will email or text you about the status of your job application. I know we have all been there; you send in your resume and cover letter, they send you an email back saying “Thanks! We’ll get back to you,” and then the company seemingly loses all ability to email. You don’t hear back ever again; there is no response to your application.

Well, StartWire is going to fix that. Using their new feature is easy; you simply share basic information with StartWire about where you have applied and you application by either forwarding the “thanks for applying” email to apps@startwire.com or by completing a brief web form. The application update engine then provides you with automatic alerts for all ‘tracked’ applications and instantly notifies you with a text message or email if the job status changes.

And in my opinion, the best part of all of this: StartWire’s recommendation engine provides job seekers with job and job search recommendations based on your actual application history. I love it when people send job posts my way!! It makes things so much easier!

The other best part about all of this: StartWire is easy to use, and free too! It works across all industries and functions, so anyone looking for a job with access to a computer or phone is going to love this new app.

Currently, the app supports application alerts for more than 2,100 employers, but that number is set to grow to more than 5,000 in the coming weeks and months.

StartWire just released a new study about applying early for a job. Check out our blog post about it here.

Wouldn’t you love to know what is happening to your job applications? Tell me how you keep updated.
