Infographic: How To Choose A Career

by Teresa Humbert on September 13, 2011

Choosing a career path can be one of the most exciting and frustrating things ever. It all begins with picking a degree to major in while you’re in college. I remember thinking that there were so many options, and I had no idea what to choose. I know that many of friends felt the same way, but ultimately I decided to go with something that I was not only comfortable with, but also something in which I knew that I could eventually be successful, too.

Lauren Binning created this infographic about the different factors that go into choosing a career. Her highlights include: Growing and Declining Occuptations, I Don’t Want My Job To Feel Like Work!, Unemployment Rate Based On Education, and I Want My Job to Contribute to a Good Quality of Life. All of these aspects are very important when trying to figure out which direction that you want to go.

Choosing a career is a difficult decision because sometimes you can’t decide if you want to go with a path that you are more interested in versus a path that will bring in more money. Ultimately, no one can make a decision for you, so there are many pros and cons that you need to consider.

  • Is this industry still going to be around in five years? How about ten?
  • Is this career going to make me feel fulfilled?
  • Is my schooling going to help me get a job, or is there more steps that I have to take?
  • Do I have a unique quality that is going to make me stand out in this field?
