Infographic: What To Wear To An Interview

by Teresa Humbert on September 9, 2011

Finding the perfect outfit for an interview can be a consuming task, and equally as nerve-racking. You want to make sure that you look professional, but you also want your personality to show through. David Schepp from AOL Jobs wrote an article about What To Wear (And Not To Wear) To An Interview [Infographic].

He summarizes that it’s hard to decide what to wear, especially when companies are starting to lean toward more casual workplaces. Environments are becoming more laid back, for example: jeans, bringing your pet to work, and full-sleeve tattoos as Generation Y starts filling more jobs. Regardless of the situation, you never want to come off as too casual at an interview. It is better to be overdressed than underdressed.

The reason why a person should dress in business attire for an interview is because of respect. You want the company to understand that you’re taking this job seriously, and that you’re interested in the position. Just try not to overdo your outfit, a three-piece suit where individuals are wearing jeans might be overbearing. Add a little bit of your personality, with a neutral outfit and you should be fine.

Rasmussen College created this infographic to demonstrate what should and should not be worn to interviews. Check it out!

Are there any items that you believe should be added to this list? What are they?
