The demand for certain jobs and the relevance of certain industries fluctuates with time and is heavily influenced growth of technology. Currently, mechanized assembly lines are replacing people, but the boom of social media is creating professions that did not exist ten years ago. As we proceed into a new decade, an infographic by Zaarly forecasts the increase and decrease of industries and professions until 2018. Consider these key points as depicted in the infographic:
- Half of the 20 fastest growing occupations are related to healthcare
- Healthcare is experiencing strong growth, due in part to the aging baby boomer generation. This is noted by the staggering amount of job opportunities for nurses and home health aides – which are the top 2 occupations with the largest numerical growth.
- Twelve of the 20 fastest growing jobs require a post-secondary degree
- Two of the 10 fastest declining jobs require a post-secondary degree. This exemplifies the demand for candidates to have a degree and rely less on the “on-the-job” training to be valuable to the job market. Although the demand for vocational and trade professions will be present, they require at least a certification and/or license to work.
Other interesting points include that workers ages 25-34 and 55 and older will increase their presence in the workforce by 2018 while everyone from 16 to 24 and 35 to 54 will decrease their presence slightly.
