Can Happiness At Work Make You More Successful? [INFOGRAPHIC]

by Kate D'Amico on November 4, 2011

With the tough economy comes job worries, both about keeping your job and succeeding at your job. Socialcast, a microblogging platform, created an infographic called “Office Bliss: How Happiness Can Fuel Success At Work.” The main point: American workers are less than happy at their jobs, but focusing on employee satisfaction can increase worker productivity and ultimately positively affect your bottom line.

The infographic starts with a TIME magazine survey statistic from 2010 that says that less than half of American workers are satisfied with their jobs. Happiness has been declining for the past four years, according to the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, from over 51.4% in 2008 down to 47% in 2011. So how can we get employees to be satisfied?

Top factors affecting employee job satisfaction are:

  • Work-life balance
  • Opportunities to use skills and abilities
  • Corporate culture
  • Feeling safe in the work environment
  • Benefits
  • The work itself
  • Compensation and pay
  • Independence

Not surprisingly, the infographic cites research from the Corporate Leadership Council that suggests that engaged and satisfied employees are motivated to help their employers succeed.

See below for the full infographic with more information on all of the above, plus information on the top happiest careers in the U.S. and how social media can increase happiness at work.

Are you happy at work? How does being happy or not being happy affect your productivity?
