Employers: Trends For Workplace Recognition [INFOGRAPHIC]

by Katie Lewis on February 2, 2012

Everyone likes to feel appreciated for his or her accomplishments once in a while – and that same sentiment is quite important in the workplace. One main factor in retaining your talent is extending recognition to them. An infographic by Socialcast (see below) reports that though 85 percent U.S. workers like to have their efforts recognized, over half feel that their company doesn’t care about them.

As it turns out, most employers don’t realize how non-financial incentives tend to be the most desired by employees. It’s been reported how workplace flexibility, career advancement, and even health benefits tend to be more desired than salary –workplace recognition is not to be overlooked.

So how can you show recognition to your employees? Consider below key factors for the process when recognizing employees:

  • Be specific and clear about why so that others know what to work towards
  • Be timely about when you recognize employees
  • Follow up if improvement occurs to reinforce recognition

How you recognize employees is still up for debate. While some feel that recognition should be face-to-face communication, other companies have been using software for recognition efforts. Whatever method you choose, it should always remain a genuine act.

Employers: do you agree that recognition retains employees? How do you communicate recognition in the workplace?
