The Next Generation of the Working Woman [INFOGRAPHIC]

In honor of Women’s History Month, global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company Accenture published a report on the rising generation of women in the workplace; namely, Gen Y. The study, entitled “The Path Forward,” focuses on workplace behaviors and attitudes in regards to women’s careers.

Some key overall findings were:

  • 57% of women are dissatisfied with their jobs
  • 69% said they don’t plan to leave their current employers
  • 64% say flexible work arrangements are their reason for staying

But, in terms of Gen Y women in the workplace, Accenture focused on the path to the future in an infographic (below). Research indicates:

Gen Y Women Are Social

  • Gen Y women have increased use of and familiarity with communications, media and digital technologies
  • 89% are on social media sites
  • 69% tend to log on to social media daily
  • 45 million are Facebook users, and represent about 30% of the U.S. population on Facebook

Gen Y Women Are Optimistic

  • Gen Y women have the most positive outlook of women in the workplace, compared to other generations
  • 65% believe that women are equal to men at the office
  • 66% have female role models at their workplace

Gen Y Women Feel Stuck

  • Gen Y women are less likely than Gen Y males to speak up about their careers
  • 54% of Gen Y women proactively manage their career (64% of Gen Y men do)
  • 45% asked for a rise (61% of men did)
  • 41% feel like they are underpaid
  • 25% don’t actively discuss their career growth with supervisors
  • 31% say their career path is stagnant
  • 47% believe lack of opportunities or lack of a clear career path is holding them back
