Generational differences do matter in the workplace; each generation values different things, and each generation requires different management approaches.
Achievers, a leader in employee recognition and global rewards solutions, published a study called “Class of 2012;” the study focuses on Millennial workers and what their employers need to know about them. Here are the key findings:
- 54% of Millennials believe that opportunities for career advancement are more important than salary
- 35% use LinkedIn as their number one social media platform when looking for a job; this is a 700% increase in the last two years
- 22% believe they will stay with their employers for more than 10 years; this contradicts the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data that say the average job tenure for Gen Y is 1.5 years
- 87% plan to apply directly to the company they want to work for
- 40% expect a $50,000-$75,000 salary for their first job

Employers, what do you think of these Millennials’ expectations?
