On Retirement: What You Need To Know [INFOGRAPHIC]

by Julie Mastrine on January 24, 2013

On this blog, we generally cover topics related to employment, the job search, and other career endeavors. But let’s flip the tables for a second and focus on something else: the end of your career, retirement. Are you ready?

Most Americans aren’t. Most of those in the U.S. aren’t saving enough money for retirement, according to new data. A whopping 40 percent of Baby Boomers now plan to “work until they drop” (yikes). An additional 46 percent of Americans say they are extremely worried about not having enough money for retirement. The retirement age is now up to 67, up four years from just a decade ago. And what’s more: in 1950, each retiree’s Social Security benefit was paid for by 16 U.S. workers. Now, that number is down to 3.3.

All of this should be enough to scare even the most career-savvy and well-prepared working professional. But there are steps that can be taken. For more startling facts on retirement plus tips for how to begin saving (never too early, right?), check out this infographic, which comes to us by way of Megan M. Biro, CEO and HR strategist.
